Because of increased awareness about candida infection many people ask ‘what causes candida albicans in women’. Most folks do not know that almost every person in the world has candida. Candida albicans is actually a type of yeast, often found in dark moist areas of the body like the mouth, intestines and vaginal orifice.
They exist harmlessly, under controlled numbers by the immune system, food supply and other bacteria. If their numbers rise quickly, they invade body’s tissues and cause disease.
Causes of candida infection
Frequent use of tight clothing
Many popular styles of clothing today feature really tight crotches. Although many people find it sexy and appealing, what’s inside that crotch may ironically smell intimidating. Tight clothing inhibits air circulation and collects moisture, favoring the growth of candida yeasts.
Abuse of antibiotics
Many people take over-the-counter antibiotics just for anything, even common colds (caused by viral infection). An antibiotic kills a lot of good bacteria but spares most yeast cells. In addition, many types of yeast acquire resistance from inadequate antibiotic intake and that makes them harder to control.
Frequent use of commercialized douches
Many girls think that when they frequently use commercialized douches every day, their ‘down there’ would smell like roses. That what advertisers want you to think, to increase their earnings. Commercial douches contain anti-bacterial compounds that eradicate a lot of good bacteria in the vagina, and that what causes candida albicans in women.
Frequent use of certain lubricants
There are a jungle of lubricants in the market today, all with different uses and features like extra-slippery, flavored, etc. But a lot of them contain glycogen, cellulose, sorbitol or fructose that feeds yeasts ‘down there’ that increases risk for candidiasis.
Management and remedies
These remedies are designed to control the population of yeast in the body, especially in the mouth and vagina.
- For the mouth, stabilized chlorine dioxide gargles are more effective in killing candida than chlorhexidine. Use at least twice a day for good effect.
- A mixture of two tablespoon apple cider vinegar, one teaspoon baking soda and a glass of water is effective against candida. It can be used as gargle or douche.
- Essential oils like citronella, melaleuca, tea tree, and olive leaf extract and lemon myrtle are also effective in killing candida yeast. Word of warning though, they must be used greatly diluted as they are very irritating to the skin. Use not more than three drops on a glass of gargle or douche.
Probiotics found in yoghurt and similar products also give additional benefit to prevent candida infestation. By supplying good bacteria, it crowds out candida yeast and preventing them from multiplying. Observing proper hygiene and diet can prevent what causes candida albicans in women.
